The Spark
Wifi audio sucked in 2002. They wanted whole-home audio without wires.
The Growth Engine
The 'Whole-Home' Land-and-Expand Flywheel: Sonos tacticaly won by making multi-room audio a seamless 'Universal Remote' experience. Their growth engine is the 'Product Ecosystem Lock-in'—once a user buys their first 'One' speaker, the psychological cost of switching to a different brand for the bedroom or kitchen becomes too high. By owning the proprietary 'Mesh Network' (SonosNet) that ensures zero-latency playback across rooms, they created a 'Walled Garden' effect where the value of the network increases with every additional hardware purchase, leading to incredible LTV from their core user base.
